Sonos System Checklist

If you're experiencing issues with your Sonos Sound System, please ensure you've checked the following first:

  • Download the Sonos Mobile App on the Boutique iPads or on a Lead's Mobile Device
  • Ensure the MacBooks are on the "The NOW Massage" Wi-Fi Network.
  • If given the option, Update the Sonos App on the MacBook. Please perform this when no guests are in the Boutique, as it will likely make the speakers unavailable for up to 10-15 Minutes.

Common Issues

  • "Firewall setting has changed"
  • RockBot or Lobby/Restroom Speaker Issues
  • NOW Waves Not Playing in Sonos

"Firewall setting has changed" Error

If you're receiving the following error related to "computer's firewall settings", most of the time the MacBook needs a system restart.

This error typically occurs after updating the Sonos App itself, or after updating the MacBook Operating System.

To resolve this issue, restart the MacBook 1-2x. If the issue persists beyond this, please reach out to [email protected] for network troubleshooting assistance.

RockBot or Lobby/Restroom Speaker Issues

The Lobby and Restroom Speakers will either be Sonos One SL Speakers, or Sonos Era 100s. These speakers are known to have occasional issues with Wi-Fi. There are two steps that you can take to attempt to resolve the issue.

Option 1: Change the Wireless Channel of Sonos Speakers.

  1. Open the Sonos Mobile App
  2. Navigate to Settings (Gear Icon) > System > Network > SonosNet Channel.
  3.  Change the wireless channel: Select a different channel (1, 6, or 11)
    1. Channel 11 is recommended for the least amount of wireless interference -- but you can keep switching channels until playback and connectivity improves.

Option 2: Power Cycle the Speakers

  1. Cutting power from the speakers is an effective way to troubleshoot quickly, as it will turn the speaker on and off.
  2. Simply flip the breaker for the outlets in which the speakers are connected to.
  3. Doing so will restart the speaker. The speaker will take around 5-10 mins to reboot and reconnect.

The NOW Waves: Alternative Playback Solution

If you're having trouble playing The Waves in Journey Room through the Sonos App, you can use the built-in Music Player on the MacBooks.

1. Open the Apple Music player (Pink Music Icon)

2. Go to Albums and Click on "TheNowWaves"

3. Click on the AirPlay Icon in the Top-Right of the App and ensure that the "Journey Room" Speakers are checked off.

4. Ensure the Waves are playing in the Journey Room. Then, reach out to IT ([email protected]) for assistance in bringing the Sonos App back online.
